English premier league football games are widely available in Australia. Even more so than in the UK as even the 3pm kick offs are televised. They are on at extremely weird times though so you will have to either stay up late or get up very late.
The 12:45pm kick offs can be alright as they can come on late night Saturdays which makes for a good atmosphere.
If you have your own flat then the easiest way to watch english premier league matches in Sydney is to sign up for Foxtel. The full package including movies and sport costs around $110 a month. You’ll get all the games for that – premier league,fa cup, champions league and league cup.
If you don’t have the chance to sign up for Foxtel then you’ll have to go out to the pub. The famous city centre on is Cheers on George St. It shows all the games and has multiple lounges to show different games if they are clashing. It’s more of a tourist than a locals hang out though.
For some of the late night games, especially when there is a fierce rivalry involved, things can get pretty rowdy. The bouncers split up opposing fans in to different parts of the bar (the upstairs and downstairs) so they don’t mix.
The bouncers can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes and have been known to knock people back for being drunk and to insist on keeping the noise down and to leave as soon as the match is finished. So it’s not always the most welcoming atmosphere.
