Newtown is the closest to the city centre of all the Inner West suburbs. It is famously bohemian and noticably young and bright. This probably comes from the closeness of the beautiful Sydney University buildings.
Newtown usually refers to the areas otherwise known as Camperdown, St Peters, Enmore, Erskinville and, of course, Newtown itself. It’s a bustling throng of activity with lively nightlife, hip shopping and a wide range of restaurants. The locals are known for having a hippiesh tolerant outlook and it’s a very pleasant place for the young and young at heart.
If you are a petrol head it’s not the best place to be a car lover. The streets are fairly small and suburb has a bit of a squashed feel. You may feel, of course, that this is actually what you prefer.
The houses tend to be on the smaller side and rents vary from almost reasonable to outrageous. Very little is a bargain though. Most places to rent are terraces with a few apartment blocks mixed in.
Public transport is in easy reach from most places with a mainline station at Newtown and a busy bus service.
