One of the great ways to experience Sydney is to relax with a flat white and indulge in some people watching. Sydney is a unique melting pot and something interesting is sure to drift along every few minutes.
For the best coffee house and more interesting locals, head for Surry Hills/Darlinghurst. With quirky backstreets and the world famous Oxford St there are plenty of great spots to grab a seat and watch the world go by. This area attracts a real mix of people : students, office workers, the gay crowd and local celebrities.
On Sunday mornings Victoria Street is the place to hang out. There are a number of quirky cafes and restaurants selling great breakfasts and coffee which provide a perfect perch to view Sydney life. You’ll see the late clubbers coming back from the a night at the Kings Cross nightclubs, the families and friends meeting up for breakfast and some of the local characters such as the pensioners going door to door selling fresh flowers.
Another great spot for people watching is Hyde Park. You’ll see tourists passing through snapping pictures of the famous sites, like St Mary’s church, as well as locals. As an added bonus there are often impromptu events held in the park ranging from photography exhibitions to outdoor concerts. It’s also a popular outdoor location for wedding photographers and sometimes you’ll even spot celebrities being interviewed in front of television cameras.
